We are currently interviewing Stegosaurus's right now and will publish the results of our investigation shortly.  What we figured out so far is ...

They lived a really long time ago. All the dinosaurs surveyed said they wouldn't leave the Jurassic period if you paid them, and that you would have to dig up their bones to bring them into the 21 century !

The apatosaurus was their best friend, and by the way, handy to have on your basketball team. (although the T-Rex was better on the fast break)

They prefer their salad fresh, without any dressing ( a herbivore, they eat plants not meat).

They wouldn't tell us what those 17 bony plates on their backs are for, but with all that laying around that they do, we think they act like radiators and help cool 'em off.

It's a good idea to stay away from their tail when they're in a bad mood; otherwise they'll show what those pointy things are used for.

They were about 20 feet long and weighed about 10 tons.

Their brain weighed about 2 1/2 oz, about the size of a walnut. (their embarrassed to talk about this fact)  Paleontologists used to think that Stegosaurus had two brains.  Now they think the second brain is really only a blob of nerves cells that may have controlled the hind legs.

You pronounce their name 'STEG-uh-sawr-us'

They are the Colorado state fossil.

The first Stegosaurus fossil was found in 1876 by M. P. Felch.  Paleontologist Othniel C. Marsh gave Stegosaurus their name in 1877.

Stegosaurus means 'Covered Lizard' or 'Roof Lizard'.

Different species of Stegosaurus had different numbers of tail spikes.  Stegosaurus ungulatis had 8 spikes and Stegosaurus stenops had 4 spikes.
